Designing a Business card has its own set off issues and hurtles (especially if what you spend most of your time doing is web design and card design seems so “low tech”). The problems compound when you have to layout several cards on a single page (say A4 or Letter) so the printer can “gang print” them.
It used to be, back in the day, that you had to create the crop marks on your own and then use Step and Replete in order to move them around the page. This process could take many long minutes or more depending on how many cards you have on the page.
Now, here comes InDesign CS4 and it has a very cool feature that automates the process. Here are the steps you need to go through in order to automate crop marks creation”
Layout your car so they all fit on the page and are spaced such that they could be cropped easily.
Make sure that each card is in one/single Group, i.e. grouped together (Object Menu>Group).
Then select all of the cards you have on the page and do the following:
Go to the Windows Menu>Automation>Scripts (Apple+Option+F11)
In the dialogue box that opens you can control all manner of Crop Marks and Registration Marks.
