How News Web Sites are Redesigning themselves – A Roundup

A few days ago, CNN – one the world’s largest media companies – relaunched their website. To celebrate this move we bring you a round up of different TV news, Magazine and Newspaper websites which have recently put on “a new coat of paint”. One note before we get going: in this instance recent can mean as old as 2007. Although that is not very “recent” we feel the projects mentioned are significant enough to be mentioned here.

Here is a short promo for the new site, which features a lot of the various iterations of CNN.com over the years.

NPR – National Public Radio

NPR is probably one of the most recent redesigns aside of CNN, and as you will read and see by the items bellow, a lot of time and effort was put into this, very significant, redesign.

The Los Angeles Times

In the late summer the LA Time, California’s premier newspaper launched a redesigned site. It has been a long while since a major US newspaper embarked on a redesign effort. The new LA Times site  is less colorful then the previous version which had some blues. The look is much more conservative, but at the same time spacey and airy, which make it easy to find your way around the site.

Businessweek.com

Another news site to have undergone a major face life in recent months as been BusinessWeek.com, unlike other sites we mentioned here this redesign has been a part of a much larger move to re brand the struggling magazine, which was eventually bought be a larger media company.
As we did elsewhere in this post we bring you both samples of the new design and a YouTube video containing some commentary about the redesign effort.
